Location. Originally J. Paul Getty's beach retreat, The Fairmont Pierre Marques is located in Acapulco, Mexico, on a 480-acre estate in the exclusive Acapulco Diamante area. Tucked between the Sierra Madre mountains and the Pacific surf, this resort stands across the street from The Pierre Marques Golf Course.
Hotel Features. Seasonal Mexican contemporary cuisine and more than 100 varieties of tequilas are served at the elegant Tabachin restaurant. John F. Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Aristotle Onassis have dined within this restaurant's sophisticated atmosphere. Bar Pierre is open daily, and offers a sports venue, an intimate lounge section and outdoor veranda seating. Meetings and events are hosted in the hotel's flexible conference rooms that accommodate up to 500 guests. A 24-hour business center offers printing, faxing and photocopying services, and features high-speed Internet access. Three beach-view outdoor pools, five tennis courts, a basketball court, a beach-volleyball court and a fitness room provide on-site recreation. Daily supervised programs for children feature miniature golf, basketball, soccer, painting lessons, water polo and water volleyball. Complimentary shuttles are offered to a partner property, the Acapulco Princess, where amenities include a lavish spa and a nightclub. Additional property amenities include a drug store, tennis and golf shops, and a souvenir shop.
Guestrooms. This resort features 229 subtly luxurious accommodations with garden, ocean or golf-course views. Rooms are located in pristine white villas, tropical bungalows and low-rise pavilions. Décor includes tropical hardwood furniture, tiled floors, ceiling fans and colorful Mexican rugs. Marble bathrooms feature oversized bathtubs. Accommodations include in-room safes and cable television, and offer high-speed Internet access. Select villas include private plunge pools.
Expert Tip. J. Paul Getty vacationed at this site during the 1950s, and then built the hotel as a retreat for his family and friends. The resort's original buildings were remodeled and are still available to guests.
